Wellsboro Monthly Meeting
Meeting for Worship for Business
Minutes 1st month 20, 2008
Attending: Robby England, Phil Krajewski, Beth Higginson, Branin Boyd
-Friends gathered and settled into worship.
-Draft minutes from 12th month 2007 were read and tentatively approved. Phil will email these to Friends and if there are no additions or corrects Friends will consider them approved.
-The treasurer's report was accepted. The current checking account balance is $509.29. The insurance bill of $502 was paid. This is up $50 from last year. Friends thought this seemed expensive, we may consider investigating other alternatives.
-Robby attended the Ministerium Meeting 1st month 9. A unity service is planned today at the Baptist Church in Mansfield at 3pm. Robby and Beth will attend. We have been asked to provide either salad or desserts for the Lenten service on the 14th at the Baptist church. Deb Casey will be the preacher that day.
-It appears the Meeting is late in its discussion of our covenant with PYM for the ‘08-‘09 fiscal year. Kathy Reilly, from PYM, contacted Branin and he told her to expect the same as last year for now. After a short discussion Meeting approved this amount of $1200. The Meeting has paid $300 so far of its covenant for ’07-’08.
-The Center for Deepening and Strengthening our Meetings is an initiative from PYM. Robby talked with Therese Miller of Lewisburg Meeting and then Wade Wright, our Quarter Coordinator, to see if a program through the Quarter is possible. Two different programs are available. “Knowing Ourselves as a Meeting” is a way to assess ourselves and what we are led to do. Robby read part of the letter from Wade about how to strengthen the Quarter and use the coordinator position. PYM Worship and Care Standing Committee and the Outreach and Ministry Standing Committee both have resources we can use. Inward versus outward outreach. The Meeting decided an adult class to discuss strengthening our Meeting would be helpful. Phil is willing to lead the discussion. Friends will schedule a meeting in Feb. If a facilitator can be present that’s fine, if not we will proceed on our own.
-Service projects were discussed as one way to strengthen our Meeting. Robby will be taking sneakers to Namibia. One of the seniors at Mansfield High School is working with him on this project. Friends can bring gently used kids sneakers or soccer shoes to Meeting any First Day. Robbie and Lyle leave for Namibia February 23 and will return March 10. There will be a Spaghetti Dinner to raise funds at the St James Church on Friday, Feb. 15.
-Beth reported as Meeting recorder that Matt Smith has requested to become an adult member after turning 21 last year. Friends enthusiastically welcome Matt as an adult!
-Next Meeting for Worship for Business will be 2nd month 17 at 9:30am.
-Adult Ed class 2nd month 3 at 9:30am.
-Announcements – FCNL has successfully raised funds to get a matching grant to have an Environmental Intern.
-The annual gathering of FGC will be in Johnstown, PA this year. Hopefully several of us can attend. There are large scholarships for first time attenders.
-Friends settled into closing worship.

-Report from the Ministerium – The Food Pantry reported an impressive number of families are served, an average of 60 per month. The Mansfield Walk for Hunger will be April 27, 2008. The walk will be 3 miles but participants can walk it twice if they wish. 50% of proceeds from this walk go to the food pantry and 50% go back to participating churches for the charity of their choice.
Beth reported that the Lenten Lunch went well. She really appreciated the message from Deb Casey about letting go of our burdens/worries/physical junk so we can better hear God’s message.
-Nominating Committee – Robby, Bryn H and Branin were approved for the Nominating Committee. Robby will ask Brynn S. if she can also serve. An email will be send to all Friends and attenders to ask where they are willing to serve. Friends hope to seat new clerks in May.
