Vox - the name makes small alien kids all over the universe shiver with terror at the thought of what this single word represents. You see, Vox is the codename of Mortimer Mcmire's ultimate plan - not the one regarding universal destruction, which Commander Keen was able to stop - but another, later one.

Mortimer Mcmire, tired of being thwarted by Commander Keen, had a new idea - he would overwhelm him with force. And not just any force, thought Mortimer's twisted, evil, sick, vile mind - no, not just any force, but Keen's own family!

And the rest of the intelligent, semi-intelligent and quasi-intelligent life in the universe. Mortimer's great plan was to destroy the universe by forcing the universe to destroy itself!

After digging out his brain-wave subversion belts that he had used to enslave the Vorticons in his ill-fated effort to destroy Earth, Mortimer looked up all of the U.S. Army's top-secret genetic engineering projects. After all, why do your own work when somebody else has done it for you?

But unfortunately, all the mental wimps in the army had failed. It was left to Mortimer to genetically engineer the greatest super-army in the universe - one that could overwhelm even the infamous (in Mortimer's twisted, evil, sick, vile mind) Commander Keen. After bulding a secret base on TOP SECRET, Mortimer began building his great army...

So now it is left up to Commander Keen to save the universe, once again, from Mortimer's twisted, evil sick vile mind (is there an echo in here?).
